Transforming construction in Muskoka with 3D concrete printing
3D Concrete printing can make a significant impact on the construction industry in Muskoka. Just ask the visionaries at Chamber Member 3DCP Muskoka.
“This cutting-edge 3D printing technology is happening around the world,” says Linda Reisman, CEO, 3DCP Muskoka. The mission of this woman-owned company is to harness the power of 3D printing technology to create beautiful, sustainable, innovative and customizable concrete products and structures.
Reisman explains 3D Concrete Printing Muskoka in simple terms. Your home or project plan is coded into a computer. It is linked to a 3D concrete printer which has a robotic arm that extrudes out the concrete for your plan. “We can make a shed, garage, sauna or the walls for your home,” she says.
3DCP Muskoka has a consortium of partners to help your project become a reality.
“We have the machine to build your concrete walls, and the team of engineers, architects and builders for the whole project,” she says. 3DCP Muskoka also welcomes those builders just looking to have concrete walls printed. The hollow walls are made with the necessary conduits for plumbing and electrical in place as they are added during the programming. The home is then completed using regular construction finishes.
Reisman says printing of the concrete walls is much faster than traditional construction and the final product is more energy efficient and more sustainable.
“Our machine can even read the topography of the land, so you don’t need to blast,” she explains. “You can just build on rock.”
Their Centre of Development is being printed and constructed in Gravenhurst. At that facility their concrete architectural products, everything from functional municipal park benches to decorative vases, are in the works. “Sheds, saunas, garages, bridges, outdoor furniture and skate parks – and they can be aesthetically pleasing,” says Reisman listing a few of the concrete possibilities. “Anything you can imagine in concrete, we can create.”
Their concrete for printing is lighter than traditional concrete and Reisman has plans to create more mixes and sell them from the Centre of Development.
She believes this innovative 3D concrete printing technology can help alleviate the blockages that hinder the construction industry and offset the high costs of traditional building materials.
“My goal is to build affordable and attainable homes in our area of Muskoka,” she says, adding she sees 3DCP Muskoka as having an important role as a viable solution to address affordable housing and create sustainable inclusive communities in Muskoka.
“We could print a neighbourhood. With 3D printed concrete, the sky’s the limit.”
