The Muskoka Lakes Museum
The Muskoka Lakes Museum in Port Carling Ontario exists to collect, document, preserve, research, exhibit and interpret the collection in order to share the history, settlement and development of the Muskoka Lakes area. The Museum places emphasis on the boat building industry in Muskoka and serves the public by hosting public programming, events, exhibitions, written publications, and research services.

Job Description
The Muskoka Lakes Museum regularly runs a number of programs and special events for visitors and members. These programs include: two Open Houses, our Summer Lecture Series, fundraisers, and regular programs for visitors of all ages. This objective of the Public Programming Assistant is to conceptualize, plan and execute these programs and events in order to promote heritage and cultural learning, as well as, generate a public survey to better understand the public’s interests.

Job Tasks
·      Assisting in planning, developing, and executing programs and special events.
·      Contacting vendors, speakers, advertisers, and other third parties involved in programs.
·      Developing and executing weekend programming for all ages.
·      Conducting tours catered to specific ages.
·      Creating and implementing visitor surveys.
·      With Marketing Chair, developing a social media and website presence for events and programs.
·      Visitor desk duties including: admission, membership, donation and gift shop sales; stocking and managing the gift shop; tracking number of visitors; and answering inquiries regarding artifacts and galleries.
·      Other relevant tasks as assigned by the Museum Manager.

Requirements
·      Asset: Having/working toward a program in Museum Studies, Education, Project Management, Event Planning, Communications, Tourism, History, or a related field.
·      Interest in and/or experience in event planning.
·      Interest in and/or experience in public programming.
·      Computer literacy with Microsoft Suites, DropBox, social media platforms and Canva.
·      Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
·      Self-motivated and outgoing.
·      Organized.
·      Standard First Aid (by start of employment).
·      Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are noneligible).
·      Legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number).
·      Between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment and are a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
