Brackenrig Nursery and Maintenance, a family owned business, was established in 1988. From a small nursery with just one greenhouse, the company has grown into a large garden centre with 8 greenhouses, and garden maintenance company. Perhaps owning a nursery was a matter of course for me, as gardening has been a big part of my life from the time I first learned to walk. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, it was my Grandma “Moe” (pronounced “Moo” in Flemish) who first introduced me to the wonders of the garden. Before the dolls became famous, Grandma convinced me that I should look for a new sister, or brother, in the cabbage patch. I never got my baby sister or brother, but I sure fell in love with the wonders of nature. I attended the University of Ghent, and it was the Agricultural Engineering and Forestry departments that led me to an MA. In 2005, I obtained the chartered herbalist diploma from Dominion Herbal College, Burnaby BC. When not immersed in the gardening business, I enjoy travelling with my husband, Ted. However, wherever we are, my camera keeps focusing on flowers and gardens.
