United Way Simcoe Muskoka is a registered charity whose mission is to improve lives and build communities by leveraging collective resources and mobilizing collective action to achieve the greatest impact. We bring together private, public, and social sector partners to address complex social challenges across the communities we serve. United Way has supported local charities in our region since 1959; today we serve communities across the County of Simcoe, District of Muskoka, and the Town of the Blue Mountains. In Muskoka, we provide direct financial supports to individuals in low-income households through our Urgent Needs Fund and the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, as well as provide funding to programs and initiatives that strengthen communities across the District. United Way Simcoe Muskoka brings together people and organizations in the private, public and social sectors to meet community needs and tackle complex social issues.

Our mission is to improve lives and build communities by leveraging collective action to achieve the greatest impact. Our vision is that everyone in every community has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

To reach our mission and vision, your United Way connected individuals and families in low-income households to over $5.8M in financial supports and provided over $5.5M in funding to Charities and not-for-profits.

More specifically, United Way has invested over $700,000 in Muskoka through the following Community Collaborative projects:

  • Getting Ahead Muskoka focuses on an individualized program to support women, youth, and Indigenous people living in low-income households in rural Muskoka. The project will create an improved network of support, increased opportunities, and expanded access to programs for those experiencing food insecurity, economic instability, and decreased mental health.
  • The Mobile Youth Hub will create safe and inclusive gathering spaces for youth by bringing programs and services to those living in rural and remote communities.
  • The Art Engagement Project aims to equip young people to discuss racism and address mental health challenges while enabling them to thrive in a more inclusive and empathetic school system.

Other initiatives supporting people across Muskoka that go above and beyond the above investment:

  • Urgent Needs Fund delivered in partnership with the District of Muskoka – in 2024 over $19,000 invested in Muskoka
  • Low-Income Energy Assistance Program delivered in partnership with the Ontario Energy Board – in 2024 over $55,000 in Muskoka
  • Reaching Home Funds administered on behalf of Federal Government in rural and remote communities – $559,328 to 5 Muskoka-based projects
  • Home Relief Fund Bank to launch in Summer 2025
